My GP has a copy of my Vaccination records and those of my family, why should I create an account?

Firstly, your GP does not have to store your records forever! Legally they only need to store your vaccination records up until the age of 25.

Have you ever had a vaccination in a private clinic, at school, university or even abroad? If the answer is yes, then the chances are that your GP never received any information about the vaccination. MyVaccs allows you to store records for all vaccinations whether administered by your GP or another medical professional - reducing the chances of gaps appearing in your records.

A MyVaccs account will stop you having to make unnecessary and time consuming visits or phone calls to your local practice to establish what you require to travel or what you have received in the past.

A MyVaccs account will go with you wherever you go. In medical emergencies abroad, house moves, MyVaccs will remove the worry of keeping a single document safe!

I want to create a MyVaccs account but I don't know my vaccination history... How do I track down my records to populate my account?

Tracking down your records can prove tough... (But it is the last time you will ever need to do it!) Some suggestions:

• Start by calling your GP and asking for a copy of your vaccination records to be sent by post or faxed to you (Some GP practices may insist you make an appointment. We would strongly recommend that you do this. Talking through your vaccination history with a medical professional more often than not helps fill in gaps)

• If you know you have received a vaccination at a private clinic in the past, give them a call. They should have your details saved on file.

• If you are looking for a child’s records and have had no luck with the GP, check with their school. The school health care professional/consultant should have a note of any vaccinations carried out at school.

• Check all paper records you might have – Personal health files etc.

• Have you had any vaccinations for work? If so, check with your employer.

We are sorry that we cannot offer any more advice on tracking down your records. It is a real pain... but that is why we created MyVaccs. Time spent now will mean time saved in the future.

Good Luck!

Why do two seperate vaccines appear together, on one line in the "Add vaccine" box?
Two vaccinations are sometimes grouped together in the “Add vaccine” box because they are administered at the same time. For example DTaP/IPV + MMR is an abbreviation of two vaccinations (1- DTaP/IPV and 2-MMR) However during the Routine Childhood vaccination program both are administered at the same time.  MyVaccs has grouped the vaccines together to save you time when entering them. If you would rather enter them separately or your records show them separately, you can select them individually by scrolling down the alphabetical list and ticking the appropriate boxes.

What is the long term goal of MyVaccs?

MyVaccs believes that the implications of vaccinations go much further than the individual and the family.

Our goal is simple and best explained in relation to the following statement...

“Knowing what you’ve had = understanding what you need”

We believe that by creating a MyVaccs account, storing and updating your vaccination records, individuals and families will gain a greater understanding of the importance of vaccinations / immunisations in their lives and communities. A greater understanding of our vaccination policies and what is required to travel globally will go a long way to improving vaccination uptake and eradicating epidemics in our society. It is the goal of MyVaccs to spread this very simple message throughout the UK and latterly to other countries around the world.

How do I find more information on Malaria and whether I need to take preventative measures on my travels?
We are not in a position to advise accurately on geographic distribution of Malaria or preventative measures required. You should discuss your travel plans with a medical professional and seek further information on your specific circumstances.

Some country vaccination recommendations state a Yellow Fever vaccination is “sometimes recommended” even though there is no threat of Yellow Fever in the country. Why?
This is a bit tricky... let us try and explain. The reason for this is that many countries require proof of a yellow fever vaccination or a Yellow Fever Certificate if you are travelling into them from a country that has yellow fever or is considered high risk. The only way to get a Yellow Fever certificate is to have had a yellow fever vaccination. Therefore depending on your travel plans/route you will have to have a yellow fever vaccination in some cases regardless of whether the "destination country" has yellow fever or not.

Why are there so many vaccines on the "Add vaccine" box?
The reason that there is such a large list is that over the years many vaccines have been available. We hope that our extensive list covers all the vaccines available and all the potential combined vaccines that have been available to allow people of all ages to benefit from MyVaccs.
