Diseases Chicken Pox

The Disease

Chickenpox is caused by a virus called the Varicella-zoster virus. It is a mild, infectious disease that generally speaking effects most children between the ages of 2 and 8 years old. The incubation period for the disease can be anything from 1-3 weeks after coming into contact with the disease. It is spread via droplets from saliva or the nasal mucus. Once you have been infected with Chickenpox it is very rare that you catch the disease again

Vaccination

Chickenpox vaccination is not part of the normal UK schedule however in special circumstances the vaccine is available to both adults and children. 

 

 

Notes for Travellers

Evidence of vaccination against this disease is sometimes demanded by employers or college authorities in the United States of America and  Canada, where it is used routinely as part of their national vaccination schedule. However, this vaccine is not routinely used for travellers.
